Aquatic Therapy

- Specialized techniques include: manual stretching, joint mobilization, strengthening/resistance exercise, buoyancy assisted and resisted balance and proprioceptive training, Bad Ragaz, Watsu and Aquatic PNF.
- WRHS has the only pool in the CSRA that is heated to 94+ degrees.
Brain Injury Program
- WRHS is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehab Facilities (CARF) as a Specialty program in Brain Injury.
- A fellowship trained PM&R physician leads the interdisciplinary team of Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) trained therapists and health care professionals, including a neuropsychologist. We are positioned to be a regional destination center/location for individuals recovering from brain injury as we have an extensive continuum of care which includes transitional, assisted and independent living services.
Vestibular and Balance Program
- The Vestibular and Balance Program is specifically designed to help patients with dizziness/vertigo, and balance problems. Balance problems are puzzling because so many of the body's systems work together. We maintain our balance through the integration of three systems: vestibular, somatosensory and visual. Therefore, a person with balance difficulties may be experiencing involvement of one or more of these systems.
- A trained team will evaluate the individual to determine the systems involved. Following a thorough evaluation, the patient will receive an individualized rehabilitation plan. Exercises are developed to decrease symptoms of dizziness or vertigo, improve balance, and maximize central nervous system compensation for vestibular loss.
Pre - Driving Evaluation and Training
- The purpose of the pre-driving screening is to determine the ability to safely return to driving, evaluate functional driving skills and make recommendations for a behind the wheel evaluation. The test helps to identify strengths and weaknesses related to the driving task, as well as assist the evaluator in determining whether driver re-training is indicated.
Tone Management Services
- The Tone Management services evaluate and treat adolescents and adults with spasticity (high tone or hypotonicity/low tone) in a comprehensive manner. Issues addressed include positioning, serial casting needs, modalities or therapy interventions, orthotics/splints, wheelchair/equipment, medication management, and Intrathecal Baclafin Therapy (ITB).
- ITB Therapy is approved for use in patients with spinal or cerebral origin spasticity as a result of cerebral palsy, brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injury.
