Groundbreaking Ceremonies for Walton South and Planer Mill Village
Augusta, GA—If you have a disability because of an injury or age, many times you could still live independently, if only you had the right home modifications. But what if you aren’t able to make these changes, due to cost or other reasons?
Walton will hold two groundbreaking ceremonies within a week of one another, to celebrate the construction of two new affordable and accessible communities designed to provide apartment homes where persons with disabilities and seniors can live more independently.
- On Friday, May 21 at 10 a.m., Walton Rehabilitation Health System will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for Walton South, 511 Richmond Hill Rd., South Augusta, a new apartment community for persons with disabilities.
- On Thursday, May 27 at 10 a.m., Walton will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for Planer Mill Village, 325 Planer Mill Rd, Harlem, a new apartment community for seniors.
The two new communities join Walton’s 11 other independent living communities, which provide homes for persons with brain injuries and other disabilities, as well as seniors. Apartments in these communities are ADA-compliant and fully accessible, featuring wider doorways, roll-in showers, wheelchair-accessible sinks and curbless sidewalks. Walton’s independent living communities represent a partnership between Walton and HUD.
