Start Making Plans Now for Next Summer’s Camp TBI
Augusta, GA—Camp To Be Independent, a week-long overnight camp for children and young adults ages 8 to 21 with traumatic brain injuries, is now accepting applications for Camp TBI 2010, which will be held on July 18 to 23, at the Camp Twin Lakes site in Rutledge, Ga.
“Every year, our campers tell us what they’d like to accomplish at camp. They say things like, ‘Have an adventure. See old friends and make new ones. Learn to tie my shoelaces!’ And, ‘Feel like a regular kid going to summer camp,’” said Leslie Glass, Vice President of Development at Walton Foundation for Independence.
Camp activities include a talent show, ropes course, zip line, kayaking, swimming, arts and crafts, recording studio, archery and more. One-on-one staff involvement increases the campers’ level of independence in the areas of personal hygiene, following a schedule, making friends appropriately and just having fun.
The camp is presented by the Walton Foundation for Independence and is free to all campers thanks to the generous support of sponsors, donors and volunteers. Last year’s Camp TBI hosted more than 30 campers from across the Southeast.
