Service Helps Schools, Daycares Prevent H1N1 and Seasonal Flu
Augusta, GA—Especially in a school or daycare setting, cleaning desks, chairs, toys and other items commonly handled by students can help prevent the spread of flu. Yet time and staff constraints can make it challenging to clean and sanitize this equipment on a regular basis, particularly if large or many items are involved.
Walton Options for Independent Living, a not-for-profit community partner of Walton Rehabilitation Health System, is offering a more efficient and affordable option to help support schools, daycares and other institutions, called Options Cleaning Services. The service uses Hub Scrub, a mini automatic washer that is designed to clean and sanitize large items or large quantities of items made of either plastic or metal. Electronic devices or wood items cannot be accepted. The service can also benefit hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities with durable medical equipment and other items that need to be sanitized.
Facilities can choose to have the service come to them or Walton Options technicians can pick up equipment, wash it and return it to the facility.
All fees for Options Cleaning Services go back to supporting the mission of Walton Options, which is to empower persons of all ages with all types of disabilities to reach their highest level of independence, community inclusion and employment. Another benefit is that persons with disabilities receive employment training as they work as technicians, supervised by Walton Options staff, for the service.
“Considering that an average cough can expel as many as 20,000 flu viruses, we recognized that this service could benefit schools, daycares and many other organizations, particularly during flu season,” said Wondea Albury, Director of Employment Services at Walton Options. “In addition, this service also allows Walton Options to support the employment and other needs of persons with disabilities.”
