Dr. John A. Nicholson Leads Walton's New Aiken Center

Augusta, GA-John A. Nicholson, MD, has been named Medical Director at the new Aiken Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, a part of Walton Rehabilitation Health System.

Dr. Nicholson is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, specializing in treating adult and adolescent patients with musculoskeletal injury, acute and chronic pain, sub-acute neurologic and orthopedic conditions, and other disabling conditions. His interests include refining the clinical process of identifying pain generators (such as mechanical instability and hypermobility or hypomobility of joints), ligament and tendon injuries, microtrauma, referred pain and "double-crush" nerve compression syndromes.

Prior to joining the Aiken Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Nicholson practiced at Big Fish Physical Medicine, Mount Pleasant, SC. He has also been the Medical Director at the Pain Relief Center in Rock Hill, SC; Outpatient Medical Director/Assistant Facility Medical Director at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in North Charleston, SC; and was an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Rehabilitation at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.

Dr. Nicholson earned an MD from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed an internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va., and a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Spain Rehabilitation Center, University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation, the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the South Carolina Spine Society.
