Botox
Treatments with Botox are done every three or four months. Muscles around the eyes, forehead and temples are injected with small amounts of the botulinum toxin. In patients whose headaches involve the entire head and neck, additional injections are given into neck and shoulder muscles. The shoulder joint is not injected. Sometimes if the pain or muscle spasm goes down between the shoulder blades, the physician will inject those muscles as well. There are essentially no side effects from the injections, except for minimal discomfort at the time of injection, including a sensation of pinprick, and a little burning with minor bleeding (similar to that of a mosquito bite.)
