Who May Benefit From An Evaluation?
Reasons for referral may include:

- What is the nature and extent of the change or loss?
- What impact will the specific cognitive problems have on their everyday functioning?
- Does a patient have developmental delays or learning disabilities?
- Does a patient struggle with behavior control for organic reasons and how do I treat?
- How likely is a patient to be able to return to work or school?
- Can rehabilitation help a patient function better, for instance, return to work or school? If so, which specific services would help?
- How well will a patient to be able to function at home and in the community?
- If applicable, is a patient safe to drive?
- Are cognitive changes due to emotional factors, disease, or both?
- I think a patient has mild dementia. Can you help me track changes over time?
Scheduling and Results
Parents and families interested in neuropsychology services should obtain a physician’s referral. Physicians who believe their patients may benefit from a neuropsychological evaluation should contact our office. Evaluations are scheduled in a timely manner with results typically available within two weeks. Specific recommendations are provided to the patient during feedback; a copy of the results is provided to the referring physician.
To maximize the benefits of our evaluation, assessments are tailored to referral questions and specific patient needs. The more specific the referral questions, the better. For an appointment or referral to a Walton neuropsychologist, call 706-823-5250.
Walton’s Behavioral Medicine offices are conveniently located inside the Walton Outpatient Therapy Center at the corner of 13th Street and Independence Drive.
